PRAYER : St.Paul's Church, Barnstaple

Together, changing lives for good!

Prayer is often a common part of people's lives, whether or not they come to church. Prayer can take many different forms, some public and some private, and be said at any time of the day, in any place.

During each worship service, prayers are said that focus on ourselves and the state of our relationship with God, or asking for his forgiveness or blessing. We say prayers of thanksgiving and praise. Almost always, there are prayers for others - both close to us and our family, and for people we don't know who are facing difficult times. That kind of prayer is sometimes called Intercession as we stand in the gap between peoples' needs and God's provision.

Prayer is the vital link in our communication with God, and like other forms of sending and receiving messages, it is a two way process. This is something that many people fail to experience because they have not trained themselves to listen to God. Prayer can be silent - allowing our senses and soul to make contact with God. Some types of prayer can even be in languages that we haven't learnt to speak, and the answer may come in a similar way through another person being given the ability to interpret, or by a visual image.

Sundays give us the chance to come together not just for worship, but also for fellowship. At the back of the church is an area for this purpose, with a plentiful supply of coffee, tea, or squash and biscuits after the main morning service.

Our weekly newssheet contains prayer items on the reverse side. Dates of the Prayer and Spirituality Course are also features in our notices as are special services or prayer times. The newssheet can be made available by email - just ask. We also put some special events and services on our facebook page. You can open a new tab direct from here

As well as our homegroups, there is an additional weekly opportunity to get together and pray. The venue is indicated in our magazine on page 22 Click to see this page
