COMMUNITY : St.Paul's, Sticklepath with Roundswell, Barnstaple

Together, changing lives for good!

There are a patchwork of communities which make up our parish, much of it having been built in separate blocks as estates at a particulary time. St.Paul's and the Methodist Church were the first key providers of community spirit, particularly during the last war. More recently the school has provided a focus, and it is there that an annual Community Day is held in June. Our church hall is very much a community resource, and is home to Scallywags one of the communities four pre-schools. The local guiding group uses the hall as well, but the scouts have had their own hut for many years on Ellerslie Playing Fields.    CLICK THE PHOTO OF THE CHURCH to return to the "home" page.

The ecclesiastical parish has links to the Barnstaple Town Council, Fremington Council and Tawstock Council. We regularly contribute content to the Tawstock Newsletter. There is no GP or medical centre based in the community yet, but most other community services are present.

Exploring and celebrating together...

To the left are two photos from "A Touch, taste, smell & feel of Christmas" a free event run by members of all three local churches in St.Paul's and the church hall, exploring Christmas through craft, video, carols, cookery, video, and lots more activites. Our thanks to the local Co-operative Shop for their donation of oranges for the event.

Sorry, at present the hall is almost fully booked for regular groups. However there is currently availability on Thursday afternoons before 4pm.

Members of St.Paul's Church are active in various different parts of the community outside of the church building: in school Governorship, or as visitors assisting with reading, leading assemblies; as Street Pastors out on the towns streets on a Saturday night; as leaders in various children's and youth groups; as Pastoral Assistants visiting the elderly and infirm; praying with people who are unwell. The church has long standing links with a number of local charities, particularly those working with the homeless, addicts, and victims of family violence, as well as support for those working amongst the wider world family.

We do not have access to the names of people admitted to hospital, so it you have a relative or friend in hospital or the hospice who would like a visit from the vicar or one of the pastoral team, do get in contact with details.

As well as the Vicar and our Reader, we have a team of trained Pastoral Assistants who visit mainly elderly or frail folk on request. If you are a family member of someone who would benefit from such a visit, please get in touch and we will see what can be arranged.

Can you help? - There is always more that could be done in our community so if you would like to help, either get in touch with us, the local Volunteer Centre, or one of the other community groups offering care to those in need.
