This is one of only a few parishes in Devon created in modern times. That helps us focus our energy and resources on serving others and sharing the truths of the Christian faith in a way that is relevant to today’s society. We started life as a separate district to meet the spiritual needs of the expanding population of Barnstaple—a process that continues. The area covered parts of three separate civil parishes, which tend to follow old church boundaries.

From it’s original base in what is now our hall, a new church of St.Paul’s was built, then consecrated in 1956 when Sticklepath Parish was created. For most of it’s life it has been served by a vicar with additional responsibilities across a wider area or within the Exeter Diocese.

In the early 1990s the area which became known as Roundswell was developed. This rise in the local population was followed by other changes in commerce, industry and education. The parish was renamed and expanded in 1996 by the Church Commissioners as "Sticklepath with Roundswell" and the boundaries were altered again in 1999 to include all the area north of the A39 except Lake village. Up to the end of 2008, Roundswell was a separate area of pastoral oversight, but the whole parish is now served by one vicar. In this parish there is a long history of clergy and laity sharing different aspects of ministry together.

As the Exeter Diocese encourages new partnerships between various parishes, the older parishes in the Barnstaple Area Team Ministry together form East Barnstaple Mission Community. The Parish of Sticklepath with Roundswell continues to work in partnership with them on projects affecting the whole town, and with Fremington Parish, and Churches Together in Barnstaple.

Behind our strapline
Together, Changing lives for good!
- are four objectives that we hold to as a church:

To continue our personal growth as disciples, and communicate faith through friendship

To engage in effective action that is targetted on spiritual and practical need, both locally and globally.

To encourage awareness of forgiveness and life abundant in Christ offered to individuals and families.

To build partnerships with other churches and agencies working for the good of our community.
