From it’s original base in what is now our hall, which served the growing community particularly in the years during and just after World War 2, a new church of St.Paul’s was built, then consecrated in 1956 as a separate Parish was created. For most of it’s life it has been served by a vicar with additional responsibilities across a wider area or within the Exeter Diocese. Two features have always been strong in our church: the willingness to get involved in active help to the community, and to work with other churches.

This is one of only a few parishes in Devon created in modern times. That helps us to focus our energy and resources on serving others and sharing the truths of the Christian faith in a way that is relevant to today’s society. We started life as a separate district to meet the spiritual needs of the expanding population of Barnstaple—a process that continues. The area covered parts of three separate civil parishes, which tend to follow old church boundaries. See the COMMUNITY topic page
In the early 1990s the area which became known as Roundswell was developed. This rise in the local population was followed by other changes in commerce, industry and education. The parish was renamed and expanded in 1996 by the Church Commissioners as "Sticklepath with Roundswell" and the boundaries were altered again in 1999 to include all the area north of the A39 except Lake village.
As the Exeter Diocese encourages new partnerships between various parishes, the older parishes in the Barnstaple Area Team Ministry together form East Barnstaple Mission Community. The Parish of Sticklepath with Roundswell continues to work in partnership with them on projects affecting the whole town, and with Fremington Parish, and Churches Together in Barnstaple.
